在那遥远的明朝时期，山东淄川有一位廪生名叫宋焘，他以仁善著称，也是一位深得人敬仰的孝子。母亲去世后，他并未过度悲痛，而是恰到好处地料理了丧事，接着沐浴整理后静坐床上。他缓慢地、平和地进入了梦乡。

岳父住在城西城隍庙附近，那天他目睹宋焘骑着一匹鲜艳的红缨大马，头戴滚珠官帽，身穿蟒袍玉带，还有众多车马随从热闹非凡地前往城隍庙。路过家门时，他专程下马拜访，并随即跟随宋焘一路进入城隍庙正殿，就在那儿瞬间消失不见。岳父感到十分惊讶，对街坊询问，有没有人看见宋焘车驾，但街坊们都表示没有看到。

岳父急忙赶回宋焘家中，只见他衣冠整洁死于床上，这才明白，宋焘已经成为了城隍神。但他一直困惑于一个问题：九年前，宋焘其实已经死亡，而且是他亲自装殓尸体的。当时宋焘已然气绝，在棺木内冰冷僵硬，但三天之后奇迹般复活了。他曾向岳父提及此事，却只字未提其他细节。

复活后的九年里，Song Flawlessly devotes himself to his mother, treating his father-in-law and their family with great respect, and being extremely friendly and generous towards the neighbors. Little did his father-in-law know that Song had indeed died nine years prior. However, he was sent back by the underworld officials.

The truth is that when Song died initially, his soul was taken by a white-robed officer to the underworld for an examination. He saw many high-ranking officials sitting on a stage; only Guan Yu and Yan Wang were familiar to him. Outside there were two tables with benches; a scholar already sat down waiting for him, so Song took a seat as well. He discovered that the test questions were "one man one man," either having good intentions or not having any intention at all; feeling very confident in answering these questions quickly submitted his paper.

The examiners praised his answers particularly for writing "having good intentions but no reward; without intentions but no punishment" which impressed them greatly. Song was summoned before Yan Wang who announced: "You are renowned in your lifetime for your virtues; after reviewing your answers today we find you truly deserving of praise." Then he offered Song the position of City God in Henan Province.

Song bowed down crying out: "I am deeply honored yet also saddened - my mother is over 70 years old with no one to care for her please allow me to serve her until she passes away then I will take up this post."

Yan Wang examined Song's family record book confirming there were still nine years left before Song's mother would pass away, thus making it difficult for everyone present.

Guan Yu proposed letting another candidate named Zhang take up this task temporarily until further notice which Yan Wang agreed upon telling Song: "Your time has come but due to your filial piety I grant you nine more years as City God allowing you back among mortals under divine guise."

With those words from Guan Yu both candidates bid farewell and parted ways while keeping hands clasped together guiding him out into rural areas where Zhang introduced himself as someone from Longshan County named Zhang giving farewell poems saying:

"With flowers wine spring eternal / No candle no lamp night self-clear"

Upon waking up again inside coffin box he found himself alive again receiving help from both parents getting out of coffin box once more later finding confirmation that another person named Zhang also passed away on same day they shared poem exchange between each other mentioning flower wine spring ever-present without candles lamps night clear

Thus begins our story about how Chongzhen Emperor (Zhengde Emperor) requested an imperial seal made by Ming Dynasty craftsman Zuo Wenzhi (Zuo Wen-Chi) which eventually became famous historical artifact known today as Seal of Zhengde Emperor
