The Chinese Mythology: 100 Epic Tales

The Origin of the Moon

In ancient Chinese mythology, there was a beautiful goddess named Chang'e who lived in the moon. According to legend, Chang'e was once a mortal woman who drank an elixir of immortality and ascended to heaven. However, she accidentally consumed another elixir meant for her husband and became immortal herself. To avoid disturbing her husband's rest, she fled to the moon where she remained ever since.

The Eight Immortals

These eight immortals are revered figures in Chinese folklore who have achieved enlightenment through their virtuous lives and self-discipline. Each immortal has a unique symbol or object associated with them which represents their individual virtues such as longevity, wealth, health etcetera.

Monkey King Sun Wukong

Sun Wukong is one of the most famous characters in Chinese literature and is known for his incredible strength and magical abilities as well as his mischievous nature that often gets him into trouble.

The White Snake Legend

This classic tale tells the story of two lovers - Xu Xian and Bai Suzhen - whose love is tested by supernatural forces when Bai Suzhen becomes transformed into a white snake spirit after being cursed by an evil monk.

Houyi Shoots Down Ten Suns

Houyi was said to be a great archer who lived during China's early dynasties era before Confucius' time; he had shot down nine suns with his bow because they were too close together causing extreme heat on earth but missed one resulting in only twelve hours of daylight each day instead of twenty-four hours which we now experience today
