杨斯盛：近代建筑营造业的一代宗师
杨斯盛简介：
杨斯盛，字锦春，小名阿毛，是上海浦东蔡路青墩人。幼年丧父母，家贫习泥工，十三岁去沪谋生。他精通商道，并于1880年创设了上海近代建筑史上第一家资本主义性质的营造厂——杨瑞泰营造厂。
杨斯盛生平：
清光绪中，上海江海北关建榷署，因款式新颖群匠愕却，无人敢承担，唯有杨斯盛独应之。他不仅在建筑领域取得了巨大成就，而且热心于社会公益事业。在教育方面，他捐助学校和慷慨解囊兴办教育设施，为浦东地区培养了一批人才。

Yang Sui-sheng: A Pioneer in Modern Construction Industry
Yang Sui-sheng, also known as Jin-chun, was a renowned architect and entrepreneur who played a significant role in the development of modern construction industry. Born in 1851 in Shanghai's Pudong district, Yang lost his parents at an early age and had to fend for himself by working as a laborer.
In the late Qing dynasty, Yang founded the first capitalist-style construction company in Shanghai - Yang Ruitai Construction Company. His innovative approach to architecture and business acumen earned him recognition from foreign investors and architects alike. He was particularly skilled at adapting Western architectural techniques to suit local conditions.
Aside from his professional achievements, Yang was also dedicated to social welfare causes. He donated generously to educational institutions and actively supported the establishment of schools in impoverished areas. His philanthropic efforts were so extensive that he became known for "destroying one's home for education."
In 1904, Yang established the private-funded Pudong Middle School with funds amounting to over 200 million yuan (approximately USD 3 million). The school quickly gained fame for its academic excellence and strong emphasis on practical skills training.
Throughout his life, Yang remained committed to his vision of creating a better future through education. Despite facing numerous challenges including financial difficulties due to heavy investment in schools and personal health issues, he continued striving towards this goal until his death on May 29th, 1908.
His legacy extends beyond his architectural contributions; he is remembered as an ardent advocate for education reform and social justice. Today, we honor not only an accomplished architect but also a visionary leader whose unwavering dedication has left lasting impacts on society.
