宁中则，东晋时期的著名人物，她是华山派掌门岳不群的妻子兼同门师妹，岳灵珊的母亲，也是令狐冲（小说男主角）的师母。她的武功了得，是武林不可多得的女中豪杰。性格上宁中则和岳不群截然不同，她发现丈夫竟然是个伪君子时，顿时大失所望；后为令狐冲治伤便即自尽。她与令狐冲情同，当令狐冲被华山派上下认为私吞林家家传究极的奥义《辟邪剑谱》和杀人灭口时，就只有她一直相信令狐冲是无辜的。
虽然不是武林最顶尖的高手，但却受到武林中人真正的尊重。少林方丈方证大师、风清扬和日月神教教主任我行间中会称呼她为“宁女侠”，可见她在武林中人心目中是个独立的人物，而不只是“岳夫人”那么简单。她对待丈夫的问题非常坚定，不顾一切地要为他正名，最终以身相许，这也成为了她形象的一部分。
评析 宁中则的人格魅力主要体现在她的慈爱及了解之心，对待令狐冲始终如一，即使面对丈夫对他的怀疑与责难，也能保持着一种慈母般的心态，为他解围。这一点在江湖上赢得了很多人的敬意。同时，她对于道德上的坚持，以及对爱情纯真的执着也是值得赞赏的地方。
Ninhongze, a renowned figure in the Eastern Jin period. She was the wife and fellow disciple of the master of Huashan Sect, Yue Bugong; the mother of Yue Lingxuan; and also the martial mother of Lin Pingzhi, who is considered as one of the top ten strongest figures in the martial world. Her created martial arts include "Yue Nu Shisan Jian" (Jade Maiden's Thirteen Swords) and "Wu Shuang Wu Dui Ning Shi Yi Jian" (Ning Family's Unique Sword).
In terms of character, Ninhongze differs greatly from her husband Yue Bugong. When she discovered that her husband was actually a hypocrite, she was deeply disappointed. Later on, for Lin Pingzhi's sake, she even killed herself to clear his name.
Although not among the top tier martial artists in Jingwu Valley, she still commands respect from others within it. The abbot of Shaolin Temple Fang Zhengdashi; Wind Clearyang; and Grand Master Yimen Rowang all address her as "Ning Niangyu", demonstrating that she is an independent figure within Jingwu Valley rather than simply being referred to as "Yue Furen".
Her relationship with Lin Pingzhi is another aspect worth mentioning - despite believing that he had stolen their family heirloom secret manual 'Bie Jia Jian Pu' or committed murder to cover it up like everyone else did at first glance into this situation when confronted by those around them but yet remained steadfast in defending him because they were siblings which showed deep understanding between them.
